CAMGEW Climate Literacy on passing-over indigenous conservation knowledge on forest and medicinal plants from the old to the young with 36 women in Oku, North West Region Cameroon. 09/05/2023.

CAMGEW in Oku  carried out climate literacy program with 36 women on forest, and medicinal plants. This session promoted sharing of knowledge on medicinal plants in the forest and around their environment. Some of the plants were identify in the local language like "Mbaserotos" used to enhance  stomach health, prevent malaria and cough. "Fegis" use to prevent cough and catarrh, Lantana flower, Fern plant and black jac are used locally to promote good health.

Some common plants like fever grass, Prunus Africanna, Pittosporum, were commonly mentioned by our old mothers that shared a lot about medicinal plants. The most interesting was the discussion on Zysigium tree as our olderly women said indigenously the back of this tree was used to enhance sexual performance in men.

Many other forest medicinal plants were discussed during this session and  women were encouraged  to use their medicinals plants to promote health in the community. As our elderly mother puts it "we were not going to the hospital at first, we mixed our medical plants and cure illnesses. Our forest is the first medicines we had at first.... Am happy to share this to other women present here......" 

Our forest and natural resources remain our source of livelihood and there is need to conserve them, share the knowledge to younger generation for sustainability.
